Warmth in the Yurt
A yurt is warmed not by a stove but by felt, a thick layer of matted wool. The wool inside the felt holds air, and air doesn't let warmth out, like a thick blanket. That is why in winter a yurt is warm even with a small fire, and in summer it is cool, because felt keeps the heat out. If you press felt to your cheek, it is soft but dense, like a rug.
